Overall Design and Type:

This 33kV 70kN composite suspension insulator is a composite (polymer) long rod type with a 8-shed (grey profile) “shackle”or “pancake”disc design. Unlike traditional porcelain or glass, the use of a polymer (like silicone rubber) offers superior performance. Its key advantages include:

Lightweight: Significantly lighter than ceramic equivalents, easing transport and installation.

High Strength-to-Weight Ratio: The core is typically a fiberglass rod with high tensile strength.

Excellent Hydrophobicity: The silicone rubber material repels water, preventing the formation of a continuous water film. This drastically improves performance in polluted, humid, or coastal environments by reducing leakage currents and the risk of flashover.

Electrical Characteristics:

Rated System Voltage: 33 kV (kiloVolts). This is clearly marked on the top metal fitting.

Creepage Distance: 900 mm. This is the total path length along the insulator's surface between the two metal ends. The specific 8-shed profile is engineered to maximize this distance, providing a long leakage path to withstand overvoltages and prevent surface current tracking, especially in adverse conditions.

Mechanical Characteristics:

Specified Mechanical Load (SML): 70 kN (kiloNewtons). This indicates the maximum tensile load the insulator is certified to withstand, which is approximately 7 metric tons. This rating ensures it can handle the mechanical forces from the conductor weight, wind, and ice.


Hardware and End Fittings:

The metal attachments, known as hardware, are designed for robust and flexible connection, as you specified with a single-eye and double-eye (clevis)

Top Fitting: A single eye terminal. This looped end is typically connected to the cross-arm of a transmission tower.

Bottom Fitting: A double eye (clevis) terminal. This U-shaped fork allows for easy connection to the conductor or another insulator string using a clevis pin and a tongue. This combination provides flexibility to accommodate movement and angles in the line.

Both fittings are made from hot-dip galvanized steel, providing excellent corrosion resistance. The surface often has a knurled or textured pattern to ensure a secure, locked fit with the polymer housing.


Application:

This tension polymer insulator is primarily used in suspension strings. Multiple such units can be connected in series to form a string suitable for higher voltage lines or different mechanical requirements. Its primary functions are to:

Mechanically support the live electrical conductor.

Electrically isolate the live conductor from the grounded transmission tower structure.

Maintain a safe and reliable insulation margin under all service conditions.
